Scalab company was founded in year 2000 by a group of Ph.D and consultants from Electronic Systems and Networking Group (ESNG) at D.I.B.E. Dep. - Genoa University. Scalab started as a spin-off company having competences, gained within ACTS 5th framework European founded project, on videoconferencing, surveillance and distance learning systems and applications. Scalab people had central role in integration, field test and public demonstrations. In the following years Scalab company refined those competences developing protopypes and products, also for prime companies.

Scalab is involved on several projects related to intelligent ambient, videosurveillance, telemedicine and distance learning. Specific attention is paied to compliancy with international standards.

The main R&D sectors where Scalab is active are:

• automatic speech recognition, with focus on systems having speaker independency, multilanguage support and small hardware footprint;
  
  
• software simulation system for multimedia processors in collaboration with DIBE and primaries companies in the semiconductor field.
